The Particulate Model Of Matter

-Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.
- Matter is made up of small discrete ( discontinuous /separate ) particles that are too small to be seen.
- The small discrete particles in matter are in constant & random ( haphazard) motion.

-Very small , invisible
-Cannot be seen with a microscope
-Spaces between matter
( differenct in solids, liquids,gases)
-Particles of matter move
( move at different speed in solids, liquids & gases)

Solids
Properties
-Fixed Voume
-Fixed Shape
-Cannot be compressed
Because
- Particles are closely packed and are in a regular pattern
-Strong attractive forces between particles
-Particles can only vibrate in their fixed postions

Liquids
Properties
-Fixed Volume
-No Fixed Shape
-Cannot be Compressed
Because
-Particles are not so closely packed together & are not in a regular pattern
-Strong attractive forces between particles
-Particles can move around each other

Gases
Properties
-No Fixed Shape
- No Fixed Volume
- Can be compressed
Because
-Particles are far away from each other
-Weak attractive forces between particles
-Particles move freely in all directions
